Using Your Library Account |
Loan Periods and Fines |
CHECKING OUT MATERIALS
Take the item(s) you wish to check out (borrow) to the library desk and present your library card to a library staff person, who will scan your account number into the computer in order to open your account. Each item on the automated system will then be scanned and assigned a Due Date. Items not on the automated system will be checked out manually and assigned a due date. You may then remove the item(s) from the library. NOTE: You must have your library card with you when you check out items. Also, the system automatically “freezes” your account if you currently owe $5 or more in fines and fees. RETURNING BORROWED ITEMS It is best to return items to the library where you picked them up, although you are allowed to return them to any Sage system library. Returning an item to its “home” library allows it to be made available to other patrons in the shortest amount of time. If you return items during the library’s open hours, please take them inside to the circulation desk. To return items when the library is closed, place the items in a loosely tied plastic grocery sack and put them in a library drop box. Items returned to the drop boxes at Ukiah Library when the library is closed will be "backdated" (checked in as of the last date the library was open). Drop boxes are on the front curb and in the rear alley. Rear alley drop is accessible from driver's side of the car. |
LOAN PERIOD: 3 days to 3 weeks, depending on the item borrowed. Pay attention to the Due Date of each item.
DUE DATE: The date by which a borrowed item must be returned to avoid overdue charges. RENEWAL: To extend the Due Date of an item ("renew"), contact the library in person, by phone, or by online account on or before the item's due date. If someone else has placed a reservation ("hold") on the item after you checked it out, you may not be able to renew it. OVERDUE FINES: Books: 20 cents per day (maximum $5.00) until the item is checked back in. Videos: 20 cents per day per video (maximum $5.00) at Ukiah Library. Videos are always due the Monday after you check them out. Returning a video case that does not contain the correct video may result in overdue fines until the correct disk or cassette is returned. "FROZEN" ACCOUNT: Any person whose library account accumulates $5.00 or more in outstanding fines/fees will lose all Sage library privileges until less than $5.00 is owed on the account. LOST/DAMAGED ITEMS: Replacement cost + $5.00 processing fee. Your account will be frozen until the fine is paid. NOTE: Certain return policies at Ukiah Library may differ from those at other libraries. It is your responsibility to return or renew the item on or before its "Due Date." |
INTER-LIBRARY LOANS (ILLs)
SAGE Inter-library loans: Your library account allows you to request up to 9 items at a time from the libraries within the Sage Library System. You can order items from another library by doing either of the following:
It may take up to 14 days for ILLs to be delivered to Ukiah Library via the Sage courier system. If you have a valid email address, an automated message will be sent to your address, telling you when your item has arrived. If you do not have email, a library staff person will call the phone number on your account to let you know that your item has arrived. The item will stay on the hold shelf (at the main desk) one week to give you time to come check it out. At the time of checkout a due date for the item will be assigned. You may return ILLs to the Ukiah Library or to any member library. For more information the courier system that makes the ILL deliveries, read the SAGE column on this page. EOIN ILLs: If the item you’re looking for is not available in a Sage system member library, all is not lost. Contact your librarian, who will find out if the item is available at a library outside the Sage system. This service carries a minimum $3.00 per item fee (if the item is available) and covers books, videos, magazines, newspapers and music CDs. |
